Day 27 – Weekly Reads (5th – 11th)

I am pleased with how many I have read, 21 mangas this week.

Two complete series have been read.  One single volume and a few that has been read up to date and one that is a complete series, but I only have one volume currently. It’s hard to make choices when I enjoyed most of the series and I will do my best to talk about them and not spoil it much.

The following reads of the week is:
  • Sankarea volumes 1 – 11
  • Wish volumes 1 – 4
  • Hatsune Miku Acute
  • Shortcake Cake volume 3
  • Ao Haru Ride volumes 2 – 3
  • Hana-Kimi Omnibus 1
  • The Promised Neverland volume 1

Pile one

The series I enjoyed the most is The Promised Neverland since I enjoy the premise of the series and I have 6 volumes to read until I caught up to date, unless volume 8 comes in today, that means up to 7 volumes read until I chose the next series to read. The only negative thing about the series that I have is the troupe of young children being more than capable of saving the world and the adults are the evil, incapable ones but that’s just me. Otherwise I really enjoy everything else and I like the main three characters and find them super adorable. Okay, yes, sometimes I find Emma annoying but otherwise I admire her determination to get through this dark ordeal.

I don’t really have a least favourite one this week, but Hana-Kimi may be close since I really want to read more volumes, but I have to wait till I procure more since I got the first volume for a dollar from Lifeline. I enjoy the story and the main character sometimes bugs me and that’s the only negative I have with it. It’s basically a girl who wants to be close to her idol and like most series of this theme, she cross dresses to get access the all boy school that her idol is enrolled at. Basically, it’s their journey and relationships as they face obstacles that come in their way.

Complete set of Sankarea
I think Sankarea could also be near the bottom.
I enjoy some parts of the story, the characters are entertaining and that ending was amazing, it’s something I haven’t seen in so long. Some parts bore me, and others made me question it’s relevance at times but this is different from other zombie genres, instead of them being mindless, okay, it happens sometimes but this about a zombie that could live in a normal environment as long as there is a system that works for said zombie, which I find very entertaining.

Acute being the only single volume manga this week, which is based on the Vocaloid song of the same name which involves childhood friends Miku, Kaito and Luka as they navigate through their friendships and relationships between each other but due to two of them, one breaks and goes down a dark place where it ends in tragedy. If anything, there is a second song after this which continues the story and I kind of hope that becomes a manga too for me to add with Acute.
I really enjoyed the dark themes of the manga and the fact it’s one of the first Vocaloid mangas I have that I also enjoy the song. Also, the art is gorgeous, and I may have bought that since it is super pretty, and I wanted it in my collection.

Now, Wish, complete set about an Angel coming to Earth to find another Angel but ends up in a pickle, where a human helped her and she feels compelled to fulfil his wish, but he has nothing that she could fulfil him, for now.
I enjoy the story and the art sometimes bug me but I absolutely love all the characters in the series. I only wish that I kind of read it before Kobato, since it seemed to have come after Wish and would have made a lot of sense in a way to me, in a sense. Like Kohaku and the relationship between other characters but either way, I did enjoy the series a lot.

Now, Ao Haru Ride and Shortcake Cake are continuation of series I am reading, and I am enjoying where they are going but I dislike cliff-hangers and I really wish they were out now so I could be reading them right now and melting from the joy it sparks within in my tiny manga loving heart. Especially in Ao Haru Ride which ended so well that I been dying to read it but the 80 day wait is going to kill me.
I am still amazed that both volume 3 of Ao Haru ride and Shortcake Cake came in at the same time and they both match each other so well that it made me feel like Valentines has come early in my little realm of manga.

So, that is what I read this week and I hoped I didn’t spoil too much but I do recommend that everyone give these mangas a gander at and maybe even a home to stay in and be loved and read by people would enjoy. I can’t wait to read more of The Promised Neverland and then be confused on what to read next since I have so many mangas to go. I have about 496 mangas to go in regards to reading since I read 249 out of 745, that is, until tomorrow when a possible of 9 more come in and any others in the mail.
