Akame Ga Kill - Yay or Nay?

Onto the next contestant
We have Akame Ga Kill!, a series done by Takahiro and Tetsuya Tashiro. It's a 15 volume complete series released by Yen Press in English and the gist of the story is somewhat simple, if I go by the feel I got from the first volume.

Tatsumi is your country bumpkin who wishes to gain wealth for his poor village, he sets out with two of his friends to find a way to gain said wealth, in this case, by becoming apart of the capitals military. Bandits managed to separate the trio and Tatsumi ends up fighting monsters onto the way to the capital in hopes of finding his friends.
When he gets there, he is not accepted to be in the military, a young lass perks him up by having a meal and "informs" him that he can pay his way into the military cause she knows someone in there, but instead basically robs him.
Once scorned, another young lady reaches out to him and offers him shelter and what not, unknown to him the secret they hold and how assassins lurk around the corner.

I could expand more but that would be revealing the juicy parts of the book that hooked me into the series itself. Let's say that he finds his friends and joins a group hell bent on fixing the wrongs of their world and to restore it to a more kinder place. This has me interested since I sort of want to know how things would end and apparently, there is other side series that Yen Press is also releasing, which are, Akame ga Kill! Zero with 10 complete volumes and Hinowa ga CRUSH with 5 ongoing volumes.

I could complain about the condition some people leave library books and makes me dread how they treat their own but this has very little to do with this judgement, outside of "I can't wait to have my own". The art style is rather nice, love the action in the series and I really enjoy the characters, including the main protagonist which I am in the middle ground cause he seems like a typical one but he also has that curious side where he has that kindness about him but that dark side that seems to appear when needed, in some cases anyway.

So, final verdict, since it's both a chunky volume but not an omnibus, I  am somewhat intrigued by this and wish to read more. The part that won me over was indeed in the middle of the manga since it made me react emotionally and got me curious. It's a series I wish to get, may not be in the immediate future but it is pretty high on the list. I can't help but love a good story that has a huge potential to be very interesting.

You can procure the series from: Book Depository

VERDICT: Yay~!
