So, doing a little segment which may result in several posts a day for me.
It goes like this, I borrow a few series from the library and see if it's a yay or nay for me in regards to buying it. There may be a few that would probably have later volumes procured due to being indecisive.
These are my own personal feelings about the series, I will talk about them but in the end, it's up to you to decide if you want them or not but these are my results after reading them. In other words, I don't want people to take these as facts or something they should obey. I, like anyone else, can be biased and I rather everyone gives it a go, heck, go raid the library and see if you like the series before buying too, I'm sure your libraries would be delighted to see you visit them!
(Note: This is during pandemic times, libraries have implemented rules, such as 30 minute visitation limits, temperature checks upon entry and making sure your details are correct, please obey the rules and be a good patron, this is not just about you getting books but making sure you and the workers are safe. Be Fair, Be Kind.)
Honestly, I just started reading this series.
I'm already kind of over the series, it doesn't gel well with me.
I will complete reading out of obligation and the fact I have to finish it but I feel like it's not my sort of manga. Sure, got a chuckle and a smile while reading it but I don't see myself owning it at all.
Basically, we follow Kou, a man who strives to owe no one at all, otherwise he has Asthmatic issues (I'd say it's more an anxiety thing over Asthma) if he feels indebted to someone, which is what happens as a girl who claims to be from Venus named Nino, saves him from drowning after her tries to retrieve his pants after a few kids stole and hung them off the bridge.
As a way to pay his debt, he agrees to help her fall in love by being her boyfriend and "live together" under the bridge where they met. Along the way, he meets a cast of eccentric characters as he pays off the debt to the girl who saved his life.
The story appeals to me but the story itself just doesn't work for me. I am not sure and no matter how much further I read into ti, something just feels off to me and I can't see myself liking it. The art is attractive though, so I know that is not a factor it how I feel about the series as a whole but sadly, it gets a nay from me.
Out of the characters, I do enjoy Nino and Sister, he is super amusing. Not sure how I feel about Kou and the rest but then again, Kou rubs me the wrong way (maybe like people named Jason, I ain't too fond of Kou's maybe?), hoping by the end of the first volume, I hope to maybe like them more and see if I need to change the review mid-way.
Entered the second part of the omnibus and the feelings have not changed.
I enjoyed the introduction of P-Ko and Stella but the verdict hasn't budged an inch from the initial encounter. Maria is also a delight, now I would rather just read about the females of this series over dealing with majority of the males, outside of Sister, the males seem so flat while the females feel rough but they certainly have a charm about them. That's the most I took from the second part of the omnibus.
It's a 15 volume series by Hikaru Nakamura, which is being printed as omnibus by Vertical, which has 7 volumes out so far. I believe it's about to release it's end volume, I am unsure since this is a series I don't plan to look further into but it is a gag manga, so obviously to not be taken seriously.
If you enjoy Gag series, then this is the right sort of manga for you.
You can get the series from here: Book Depository
The eighth volume is in pre-order status and should, in print, be out by 17th February 2021.
VERDICT: Nay 🙅
