Day 37 – Manga Mail

This week we only got four mangas towards the total, since I didn’t get much towards series, in a way. I have read two of the four new mangas, I am very proud of that considering I been delayed by Mayo Chiki a bit.

I plan to write the reading review here of the two I have read since the next post about the weekly reads will be much longer due to the amount I read. Spoiler, I will be talking about Panty and Stocking with Spiral, since I read those two this week. Anyway, let’s begin!

The following mangas are:
  • Spiral
  • Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt
  • Food Wars vol.7
  • Magical Girl Site vol.8

Let’s begin with my favourite genre, horror.

Spiral is one of five mangas in the Ring series. I am pleased to get this one while I am waiting for the fourth or maybe fifth volume get cheaper cause short life shelves and being a pain in a butt to find cause out of print but anyway, still so pleased about it. Then again, I chose to collect old series or started them years ago and is only know collecting them.

In the manga adaptation of Koji Suzuki’s novel, Spiral. The legend of Sadako’s evil takes a scientific turn as Mitsuo Ando, a college mate of Ryuji Takayama, must now decipher a mysterious code left behind to find out more about the strange virus that seems to stem from watching the video tape as it kills people once again. When disbelief kicks in and turns to fear, logic bends to survival and human evolution changes drastically since now Sadako plan is not just horrifying but much darker and more sinister.

I really enjoy this since it seems much closer to the original novels compared to the first few mangas but then again, they seemed to have followed the movies more closely than the actual novels, which is not surprising.

Next, we have Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.
If anyone knows the series, this manga is just a 110-page short version of the series. I like the humour, but I don’t like how short it was considering it was quite pricey for the size and that kind of annoyed me, but I am still happy to obtain it since I am a fan of the series. So, let me tell you all about it!

We are back with everyone’s fallen angels in nine new short stories, written and drawn by TARGO. Booted out of heaven for gross immorality, sisters Panty and Stocking Anarchy are trying to earn their way back by taking out evil ghosts, under the command of their questionable preacher, Garterbelt. Evil doesn’t stand a chance when good is prepared to kick arse.

As said, I enjoyed the series but did not enjoy the price nor size. It’s the type of humour and vulgarity that I expect from this series and I would have been so disappointed if the manga didn’t reflect it. So as much as I complain, I am so pleased to get this solo volume to have in my collection.

So, before we enter the realm of horror again, we shall take a peak at the world of cooking.
Now we have Food Wars 7, where I was annoyed at it for being one of the more pricey Food Wars but at the time of purchase, it was obscenely cheap and in my usual fashion, I nabbed it before it went back to a more natural price.

Preliminary round of the Fall classic begins!
All the contestants do their best to showcase their skills to the acclaimed judges with the favoured students presenting the most exquisite curry dishes that they can make and only the top eight finalists will be qualified to enter the main event. Who will make the cut!?

I am so glad to be actually progressing on buying this series since there is several volumes out and I am straggling behind in the realm of ten volumes but hey, I will get there and enjoy the series in the process.

Onto the final manga of this mail batch.

We have Magical Girl Site volume 8, which I got originally as a pre-order and it was pushed back at one point, but I am stocked that it has finally arrived, and I can’t wait to read them all in a row. Though I have to eventually put volume 9 on pre-order since I am keeping this and several others completely up to date. I have to eventually figure out when this series ends. Any whom, onto the synopsis.

Aya and her friends have successfully captured a manager!
When their captives’ body unexpectedly changes, they are left with more questions than answers but who or what are the managers?

Hopefully I can get my weekly reads, that is long overdue, written up today and possibly posted.

That’s all I can really say since it’s a brief blurb and I haven’t read them yet and funnily, since this is a few days late, a whole lot more mangas have come in and I can’t wait to share them at the end of the week. Mizu signing out of yet another manga mail and remember kiddies, read all the things!
