Day 43 – Weekly Reads (19th - 25th)

So again, with me delaying stuff. I know, it’s a bad habit of mine, I will try and fix it as best as I can but I am not inclined to make shallow promises but I can try and release them as soon as I can.
Anyway, this week I basically read a whole series, which I will only speak about the opinion of rather than reword the synopsis from Day 42.

For once, I am not going by synopsis of the mangas but rather speak from memory about it. It will probably give a better indicator of how much the story stuck to me as a reader. I may be sarcastic or harsh at some points and I apologise for that, I am in a mood currently, but I have a drive to write!

Here is the works I have indulged in the last week:
  • Made in Heaven vol. 1-2
  • Food Wars vol. 11
  • Kiss Him, Not Me vol. 1-14
  • Resident Evil the Marhawa Desire vol. 1-5

Made in Heaven is a two-part series distributed by TokyoPop, saying that gives you an indicator that it will be a pain in the arse to get since it’s most likely an Out of Print (OOP) manga and going to cost a lot for new and just a little less for a second-hand book.

So, it’s a romantic drama with a dash of Tragedy as the first volume follows the guy, who use to be Reiji until he died and become Kazemichi, a cyborg with a limited lifespan. He eventually meets Juri, a woman who keeps to herself, they fall in love and moved in together.
You end the Kazemichi side where he gifts Juri an early Christmas present and dies not long after. Juri side continues with her finding out the truth about Kazemichi and why he died. It also pieces together all the loose ends and finally reveals how they truly felt about each other.

I like the story cause it’s not the typical happy ending that a lot of Shoujo based mangas have and you easily kind of get attached to the main characters. I didn’t mind the art style so much since it is an older one, but it was very pleasant to look at. I feel that there is not much you can do with the manga and should never go further than two volumes. I give it a 3.5 out of 5 bookmarks.
Good for people who like a tragedy and short series.

Volume 11 of Food Wars continues with the fall classics as Soma is pitched against the copycat Mimasaka but as we all know, Soma does beat him and win everyone’s knives back but Takumi wants to win it back later off Soma, which I do hope the series goes back and touches upon.
Anyway, not much to really add besides wanting to read more of the series but it will take me a while to procure them all and read. Then again, seeing everyone up to 29 and I am crawling at 12 makes me somewhat nervous or inadequate but I am sure to be able to fix that one day.
Sadly, I lack a rating for this one since I want to read more before judging it hard cause right now it’s about a 4.5 bookmark but may or may not change.

Now, reading all fourteen volumes in a few days amazes me since I am usually a lazy shit when it comes to reading but anyway, let’s get to how I feel about the series since I have already explained the story earlier.
So, we are following a Fujoshi who suddenly got beautiful and everyone is like “oh my god, I think I love Kae”, sure, I like how they somewhat accepted she loves anime and yaoi but even then it seems shaky. I did enjoy the story, but I didn’t like how at one point that she treated it like a game and dragged out her answer when we knew Mutsumi would be the winner because he recognised her and the others are like “It’s Kae, wha?”

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good story with lovely art but at times some parts annoyed me, or some characters made me want to punch them for some reason or another, like Kae choosing Shion over Mutsumi at one point. I am glad it was a stopped at fourteen cause if it went even longer, it would not be worth buying cause there is only so much you can do with that story, in my opinion. I give this a 4 out of 5 bookmarks.

Now, I am going to be bias as hell since I am a Resident Evil fan since like 1998 when I first played Resident Evil Directors Cut or somewhere there cause my father is like “have fun playing” and boom, RE fan for life apparently. Anyway, this manga is situated before Resident Evil 6, which I don’t like very much, but the manga was very fascinating though and does give an insight about how the virus between the very first installation compared to where it is now is amazing.

Any whom, let us talk about the manga as we follow the main protag, Ricky as he travels to the Marhawa academy with his Uncle Doug to investigate a possible virus outbreak. Of course, Gracia doesn’t want the school to let the reputation to go to the dogs and tried to cover it, but it greatly upset Bindi who decided that this truth would not be buried and unleashed the virus onto the whole school population.
Now, Chris, Merah and Piers come in and save the day. Well, not really, everyone kind of dies and only a handful of characters survive, and Ricky ends up recording the situation just as the sixth game begins.

I know, that was kind of a spoiler thing, but I tried to keep it limited.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the story and art but I wish they would translate and release the other Resident Evil mangas since I want them all in my life, even if they quite pricey since I am a poor butt but then again, that’s just me. I am so glad I have this series. I give this a 5 out of 5 bookmarks cause I’m stubborn that way.

Now, I am sorry for the delay and the lack of size, but I didn’t have much variety at this rate. I am hoping to read more mangas this week and if not, hopefully more variety, which I can somewhat confirm that it may be a possibility at this rate. Anyway, we have come to an end and therefore, time to read all the things!
